belated birthday

straight from the heart
hi Romal, a very happy birthday to you. just made it in time. sorry could not taste the cake... maybe some other time, some other place.
i just have to share this observation with you guys. a prof from the economics dept. mentioned something that fits the bill here. the bbm class he handles is a rowdy bunch in class but outside they are very friendly. i am also stuck by the contrast- how the same group can behave differently in different settings.
a class has its own rules. similarly the relationship in class is more formal. it has its own dynamics. outside, a teacher and a student can be friendly; but must never be friends. one should keep the distance for the obvious reasons. very cryptic, i suppose.

yeah, i guess it helps to maintain a professional decorum. But i guess it depends individually. There are people, that if you are friendly with outside, then they try to be jumpy all over within the professional place as well, more like they cannot distinguish the difference in the context and settings. while some can.

I have also felt this need... the distinction between classroom and out side the classroom has to be known clearly... It is an awkward situation for both the parties if this distinction is blurred...

ya distinctions are vital. We aren't an amorphous mass of humanity. But what do I do when I don't have a classroom? ;)

hi sunil, you don't know how lucky you are with a classroom. you don't have to get bogged down by limited space and its various restrictions. the grass always looks greener on the other side, but one doesn't know the thorns among the grass.

very true sir, i agree keeping a distance also allows that much more mutual respect to blossom. It keeps the balance in place.Familiarity breeds contempt.
